Fun Food Academy

Mary Washington Healthcare and the Fredericksburg Public Schools are proud to announce the monthly Fun Food Academy that will be going on from January through June.

Where: Original Walker Grant Cafeteria/Kitchen

Goals: Introduction to “Myplate Initiative”, Shopping Tips, Cooking Techniques, Recipes and Sampling

When:
1/22 – “My Plate” – Introduce the daily Nutritional needs of a child
2/19 – Fruits & Vegetables – Make it easy and automatic
3/19 – Whole Grains – Start the change without the “scare”
4/16 – Processed Foods – “Just do it yourself’!! It’s easy!!
5/14 – Proteins: Not just Meat & Cheese.. Healthier Alternatives
6/11 – Snacks – Moderation without all of the sugar
6/14 – Trip to the Farmers Market for shopping and a picnic…

Volunteers Needed!

logoHealth & Wellness Expo March 29th

The Fredericksburg Health and Wellness Expo is the most comprehensive health & wellness expo in the greater Fredericksburg area. Their extensive program includes Entertainment, Healthy Foods, Fitness, Products, Services, Seminars and Lifestyle Choices. This event will also hold a food drive as for the FAFB. Attendees will be bringing non-perishable items to donate. Learn More >>

Two types of volunteers are needed for this event:

Adult volunteers (18 years of age or older) are needed to assist the coordinators of the expo directly and work in the exhibitor and lecture areas of the expo. Tasks may include showing exhibitors their locations, assisting speakers on and off stage, etc. – Volunteers will receive an additional email from the expo coordinator with specific instructions before the event.

Volunteers (16 years of age or older) will greet, collect, and thank donors for their donations for the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank. Volunteers will also help with setup and breakdown. There will be donation barrels and food bank truck at the location. Volunteers will meet with staff and receive instruction. FAFB staff will be present at all times to give instruction. Volunteers meet staff at front entrance.
