National Pecan Day!
Pecans are a great food for your health and your mind because pecans are packed with vitamins and minerals (nutrients that will fill you up and keep you going) and antioxidants (antioxidants may help prevent damage in the body that could lead to cancer, heart disease or Alzheimer’s).
The pecan can be traced back to the 16th century and its pre-colonial residents. Both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson are said to have planted pecan trees. New Orleans, at the mouth of the Mississippi River, became the hub for redistributing pecans to other parts of the United States and to the rest of the world.
