Hunger Awareness Month

The Governor of Virginia has officially recognized September as Hunger Awareness Month in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:


WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is committed to combating hunger in every part of the state, and providing aid to Virginians in need; and

WHEREAS, the Federation of Virginia Food Banks, a partner state association of Feeding America, is Virginia’s largest hunger relief network; and

WHEREAS, each year, nearly 2 million individuals in Virginia rely on food provided by the members of the Federation of Virginia Food Banks; and

WHEREAS, the members of the Federation of Virginia Food Banks distributed more than 142 million pounds of food and grocery products in 2014 through its network of food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and other community organizations; and

WHEREAS, food banks across the country, including the seven members of the Federation of Virginia Food Banks, will host numerous events throughout the month of September to increase awareness and encourage involvement in efforts to end hunger in local communities;

NOW, THEREFOR, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do herby recognize September 2015 as HUNGER AWARENESS MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to attention of all our citizens.
