Food Bank Receives Grant to Purchase Fresh Produce and Healthy Food for Seniors

Fredericksburg, VA (Jan 17, 2016) – The Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank has been awarded a $2,675 grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation to provide food and produce for the Food for Life program. According to the FRFB Agency and Programs Director, Mishelle Krogstad, “This grant will allow us to provide nutritious, supplemental food assistance to the elderly of our community, who are living on a limited income.”

The food bank serves as the charitable food distribution center for 69 non-profit and faith-based organizations throughout Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, Caroline, the City of Fredericksburg, and Locust Grove. The FFL program provides a box of nutritious food each month to the low-income elderly of our community, supplementing their nutritional requirements. Oya Oliver, FRFB President and CEO stated, “We are very thankful that this gift from the Wells Fargo Foundation will help us provide healthy food to our seniors.  Daily we come in contact with elderly who live on such tight budgets that they have a hard time finding funds to pay for food and other essentials of daily living.  This gift will help to alleviate the stress that their living situations create.”
