Food Bank Receives Grant to Purchase Refrigerated Truck

Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank Receives $52,000 Grant from the Walmart Foundation State Giving Program to Support Pantry Distribution Program

Fredericksburg, VA (Jun 15, 2017) – The Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank has been awarded a $52,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation State Giving Program to purchase a refurbished refrigerated box truck.  According to the FRFB Agency and Programs Director, Mishelle Krogstad, “This grant will enable the food bank to purchase a truck that will pick up larger donations to stock our shelves.  This will include a greater amount of perishables that otherwise go to waste, providing a larger, healthier selection for the hungry families we serve.”

The food bank serves as a charitable food hub, stocking the pantries of 72 non-profit and faith-based organizations throughout Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, Caroline, the City of Fredericksburg, and Locust Grove through our Pantry Distribution Program.

Oya Oliver, FRFB President and CEO stated, “We are so thankful to Walmart for this opportunity to help us meet the growing needs of the hungry in our community, by distributing the most nutritious food items possible in the most efficient and safe way possible.  This program allows families to get what they need as quickly as possible to help remove some of the stress that can result from not having enough food.”

“Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are pleased to support the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank and their efforts to help alleviate hunger in the community,” said Brooke Mueller, Director of Government Relations and Public Affairs. “Through this grant, the Food Bank will be able to purchase a refrigerated food truck and reach more families in the community in need.”
