FRFB Receives $15,000 Grant

Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank Receives $15,000 Grant from Richard & Caroline T. Gwathmey Memorial Trust to Support Pantry Distribution Program

Food Bank Receives Grant to Purchase Refrigerated Truck

Fredericksburg, VA (Aug 3, 2017) – The Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank has been awarded a $15,000 grant from the Richard & Caroline T. Gwathmey Memorial Trust, Bank of America, N.A., Trustee, to assist with the purchase of a refurbished refrigerated box truck.  According to the FRFB Agency and Programs Director, Mishelle Krogstad, “This grant will enable the food bank to purchase a truck that will pick up larger donations to stock our shelves.  This will include a greater amount of perishables that otherwise go to waste, providing a larger, healthier selection for the hungry families we serve.  By transporting nutritious food items in the most efficient and safe way possible, this truck will help the food bank to meet the growing needs of the hungry in our community.”

The food bank serves as a charitable food hub, stocking the pantries of 72 non-profit and faith-based organizations throughout Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, Caroline, the City of Fredericksburg, and Locust Grove through our Pantry Distribution program.  Oya Oliver, FRFB President and CEO stated, “Our Pantry Distribution program assists families in getting what they need quickly, to help remove some of the stress that can result from not having enough food.  We are so thankful to the Gwathmey Memorial Trust for this opportunity to  purchase a newer vehicle, which will serve the food bank for years to come.”
