Fight Hunger. Spark Change.

This spring, Walmart is joining forces with its customers and suppliers including Campbell Soup Company, General Mills, Kellogg Company, The Kraft Heinz Company, Pepsico and Discover to raise 100 million meals* for Feeding America® and its nationwide network of member food banks. There are four main ways for the public to participate in the campaign: 

1) Product Purchase: Each participating item purchased at Walmart or through will unlock a donation equivalent to one meal* secured by Feeding America® on behalf of local member food banks from each supplier. 1 item = 1 meal ($0.09) up to each supplier’s maximum donation. 100% of funds will benefit local member food banks.

2) Register Giving: customers can donate to their local Feeding America member food bank at the registers of Walmart stores. Donations of $1, $2, $5 or another amount will be accepted. There is no limit to what can be raised at the register! 100% of funds will be directed to local member food banks.

3) Digital Challenge: Sharing #FightHunger on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and using the campaign Snapchat filter will generate a donation of 10 meals* from Walmart. Walmart has made an initial donation of $1.5 million, which will be split nationally and locally. An additional $1.5M is being made available for the campaign period. The following actions generate a donation and will count towards drawing down the additional gift. 100% of incremental funds will benefit network members and funds will be divided evenly:

  • Liking, sharing or clicking on Walmart’s Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign content on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter

  • Creating or sharing content on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter using #FightHunger

  • Using the Fight Hunger. Spark Change. filter on Snapchat, available on April 21st   

 4) Discover Card: For each transaction using Discover at Walmart and on, an additional meal* will be donated by Discover. Funds will be shared between the national office and network food banks.

Through online acts of support, purchasing participating products and donating at the register, campaign aims to help Feeding America secure 75 million meals on behalf of member food banks.

Fredericksburg, VA (March 28, 2016) – This week, Walmart launched its “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” campaign, a nationwide initiative calling on the public to take action in the fight against hunger. The Feeding America nationwide network of 200 food banks, of which Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank is a member, stands to benefit from up to $3 million in potential Walmart donations based on public participation in the “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” campaign.

By combining Walmart’s donation with supplier donations through product purchases and customer donations at the register, the campaign has a goal of helping to secure 75 million meals for the Feeding America network. The campaign runs through April 25.

With the USDA reporting that one in seven people in America struggle with hunter, the “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” campaign comes at a critical time. Here in our community, over 30,000 people may not know where they will find their next meal.

We hope people across the Fredericksburg region will take action and join us in fighting hunger by participating in the campaign.”

To raise awareness and help provide meals to those in need, Walmart and five of its national suppliers – Campbell Soup Company, General Mills, Kellogg Company, Kraft Heinz Company, and PepsiCo – are calling on the public to take action in-store and online to generate support for the Feeding America network.

From March 28 to April 25, there are three easy ways to “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” in our community:

  1. Buy Participating Products:  Purchase participating products in Walmart stores to help provide meals to local families who struggle with hunger. For every participating product purchased at Walmart between March 28th and April 25th, 2016, the manufacturer will donate $0.09 to Feeding America – enough to secure one meal on behalf of local food banks- up to each manufacturer’s maximum donation, which is provided on the participating packages.   2. Online Acts of Support:  Generate donations for Feeding America food banks by using #FightHunger on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, sharing and liking campaign posts on Facebook, showing support on and using campaign Snapchat filters in select stores. For the first time, Twitter has developed a custom emoji for the “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” campaign. When users Tweet using the hashtag #FightHunger, the custom emoji will appear after the hashtag. For each online act of support, Walmart will donate an amount to help secure 10 meals (an equivalent of $0.90) on behalf of Feeding America member food banks, up to $1.5 million.
    To kick off the campaign, Walmart will make an initial donation of $1.5 million to Feeding America with the goal of reaching a total donation of $3 million based on the public’s social engagement.
  3. Donate at the Register: Donate to a local Feeding America member food bank at the register during checkout.

This is Walmart’s 10th year partnering with Feeding America nationally to fight hunger and the 3rd annual “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” campaign.

Fight Hunger. Spark Change.

From April 6 to May 3, 2015 Walmart is teaming up with some of America’s favorite food manufactures to fight hunger and spark change across the country. Through the 2015 Fight Hunger Spark Change campaign (formerly, Fighting Hunger Together) the public can raise money for Feeding America member food banks through three easy ways: in-store purchase, register donations and social media.

In-Store Purchase

One item helps provide one meal. Walmart is working with six of its top suppliers: Campbell’s, ConAgra Foods, General Mills, Kellogg’s, Kraft and Unilever with a goal to raise 75 million meals for Feeding America food banks. Between April 6 and May 3, the purchase of approximately 70 participating grocery products at Walmart will trigger a donation. For each product purchased, the manufacturer will donate $0.10 to Feeding America to help secure one meal on behalf of local member food banks, up to each manufacturer’s maximum donation. 100% of these funds will benefit the network.

Register Donation

Walmart customers will also be able to make donations at the register on behalf of their local Feeding America food bank. Signs at the register will invite customers to donate in increments of $1, $2, or $5. 100% of these funds will benefit the network.

Social Media

Share your smiles to raise funds for the entire Feeding America network! During the campaign, Walmart will raise awareness about the one in six people struggling with hunger in the U.S through a social media challenge. All food banks stand to benefit! Here’s how it works

  1. Take a picture of six people who commit to fight hunger
  2. Post the picture on either Facebook, Twitter or Instagram – use the campaign hashtag #wesparkchange.
  3. Make sure your post is public to ensure it can be counted
  4. Walmart will donate $10 for every qualifying post, up to $1.5 million!
  5. Share your post and encourage your advocates, volunteers and donors to participate

Walmart will kick things off by donating $1.5 million to Feeding America in honor of the campaign. This gift will be split 50%/50% with the national office and the network. During the campaign period, you can help earn an additional $1.5 million for member food banks across the country. Walmart will donate $10 per post, up to an additional $1.5 million! 100% of the earned donation will benefit the network.

The Cheesecake Factory: Say Cheese!

CheesecakeThe Cheesecake Factory has donated more than $3M and is a year-long campaign that supports Feeding America’s national network of food banks. On July 30, National Cheesecake Day, The Cheesecake Factory announces a specialty flavor; a donation of $0.25 per slice will be made to Feeding America in support of local food banks. We are excited to “break the news” that this year’s featured flavor is Lemon Meringue Cheesecake.

Stamp Out Hunger

22nd Annual National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Food Drive

Onfood_drive_2014_flat_rgb_redo Saturday, May 10, 2014, the NALC will collect food donations in order to provide assistance to the millions that are struggling with hunger across America. Look for a Stamp Out Hunger Letter Carrier Food Drive postcard in your mailbox right before the food drive!

Now in its 22nd year, the Stamp Out Hunger effort is the nation’s largest single-day food drive. In 2013, over 74 million pounds of food were donated nation wide!

Last year our community donated 71,196 pounds of non-perishables to the NALC’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

To participate:
1) Collect and bag non-perishable food items*
2) Place by your mailbox on May 11th for your letter carrier to pick up

The Great American Milk Drive

That gallon of milk you consider a staple in your refrigerator is missing in our food bank. In fact, milk is one of the items most requested by food bank clients, yet there is a nationwide shortage because it is rarely donated.

This means the 12.5 million families that Feeding America supports – including those right here in our community – do not have access to adequate nourishment to help them reach their full potential.

In fact, the 37 million Americans served annually in the Feeding America network receive the equivalent of less than ONE gallon of milk per person per year.

That has now changed with the launch of The Great American Milk Drive, the first-ever national program to help deliver highly desired and nutrient-rich gallons of milk to hungry families who need it most.

YOU CAN HELP! With a simple click of a mouse ( or text message (text “Milk” to 27722), you can help get much-needed milk and donate it for as little as $5.00 to a family who does not have regular access to milk. Donations are designated to local food banks by the donor’s billing zip code.

Give A Meal

Bank of America will again be the exclusive sponsor of the Give a Meal campaign, taking place from November 18, 2013–January 10, 2014. The purpose of the holiday Give a Meal campaign is to raise awareness of the issue of hunger. Bank of America’s goal is to leverage this campaign to provide support and funding to as many food banks as possible in the Feeding America network.

How does the campaign work?

During the holiday Give a Meal campaign, for every $1 a person donates online at or Bank of America will match it by $2 (up to a match of $1.5 million).  Example:  $10 Donation + $20 Match by Bank of America = $30 Total Donation

Donors will have the ability to choose to donate to their local food bank or to the Feeding America national office.  Gifts designated to food banks will benefit the food bank served by the billing zip code entered by the donor.  If more than one food bank serves the territory of the donor’s billing zip code, the donation will benefit each according to the food banks’ local agreement.  Last year, over 90 percent of the donations were directed locally.

What are the rules?

  • There is a $5.00 minimum donation an individual can make
  • The maximum donation per individual that will be matched by Bank of America is $1,000
  • If an individual makes multiple donations that total more than $1,000, Bank of America will only match $1,000
  • Companies and Foundations cannot participate.  If for some reason a company or foundation donates online, Bank of America will not match their donation
  • Offline donations will not be matched

FEED USA + Target


NWC_FEEDUSAOn June 30th 2013, Target will launch the FEED USA + Target collection, an exclusive, limited-time collection of stylish, lifestyle products to raise funds for Feeding America, the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity and partner of Target since 2001. During the weeks that the products will be available, the collection has the potential to provide more than 10 million meals for families across the US.

Each product in the FEED USA + Target collection will display the number of meals donated to Feeding America as a result of the purchase. Target will donated the monetary equivalent of the number of meals listed on the product to Feeding America.

50% of the proceeds raised through the campaign will be donated to Feeding America’s member Food Banks across the nation. Funds will be allocated based on the number of Target stores in each Food Bank’s area. The remaining 50% of proceeds will be donated to Feeding America’s national hunger relief efforts,

To generate public awareness for this campaign Target, FEED, and Feeding America embarked on a “Road Trip” to visit five Feeding America member Food Banks and produced a series of videos that were released online.

FEED USA + Target’s exclusive collection for apparel & Accessories, home & sporting goods, and stationary products are available at any Target store location staring June 30th through October 12th and online at starting June 30th through November 16th.
